U.S.–China Economic Comparison
As indicated in the topic, I will compare the two economies in various relevant economic perspectives. I will contrast the differences between the two nations and discuss the underlying reason or cause of this difference. The strength and weakness of each economy will be highlighted, outlining possible implications for policy. Not technical, just informative, for general public/interest

1.Lewisian Turning Point in the Future of China's EmploymentStructure
This is LONG presentation, and will need to be divided into two seminars. The lecture consists of three parts. In Part I, I present a brief summary of China's evolution in terms of policy towards FDI and exchange rates. Part II how China is moving from a labor surplus economy to a situation of labor shortage; I will also touch on the severe aging issue of China's population. The final part uses relatively simple methodology to examine the employment structure of China's primary, industrial, and service sectors, in terms of its capacity for labor absorption and productivity. Long, a bit technical, but fine for even undergraduates and MA.

2.The “New Normal” and the “One Belt One Road”Initiative
In this lecture, I will discuss the “cause” of China’s search for the “New Normal” (which is already covered in some of the lectures above). We will discuss the economic strategies to boost China’s
lumping economic growth, leading to the “One Belt One Road” Strategy. In the second half I will focus on the feasibility of monetary and financial integration in China and the OBOR partners.

4.ITC Anti-dumping Case Rulings: Is China being Unfairly Targeted?
This is the second of three empirical papers based on a public choice all political economy framework on the formulation of US trade policy towards China. The first paper is already published and deals with the passage of the PNTR Bill with strong support of the US business sector. This paper has recently been rejected after a revise/resubmit, I am preparing to submit it to another general for publication consideration. This paper focuses on the determinants of U.S. ITC anti-dumping ruling against China. Slightly technical, good undergraduates should be ok.

5.How did the Currency Exchange Rate Oversight Reform Act pass in the U.S.Senate?
This is the three of the trilogy of empirical papers mentioned above. This paper focuses on the surprisingly easy passage of this Act, which in all accounts is a direct aim at China. The most disturbing find is that unlike the PNTR Bill, the US business community is no longer strong supporters of trade with China. Slightly technical, good undergraduates should be ok.
Causal Mechanisms in the Intergenerational Transmission of Income in China
Intergenerational income elasticity (IIE) is often used to measure intergenerational income mobility, but it tell us little regarding the determinants behind the intergenerational income correlation. Accurate understanding of the intergenerational transmission of income is important for policies aimed at improving social equality. In this paper, we use current income data from the 2010 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), studying the causal effect of father’s income and human capital on the intergenerational transmission of income between fathers and sons. We find that the majority of the intergenerational income elasticity can be attributed to the causal effect of father’s financial resources. Moreover, we provide a lower bound of the elasticity, which is 0.339, with the true value is estimated to be closer to
0.6. The result suggests that public policies aim at narrowing current income gap will have a long lasting effect as it is conducive to increasing intergenerational income mobility in China.
How to Publish in a Western Academic Journal
This is a general discussion of how to write a research paper suitable for publication Western academic journal (it is pretty much the same Chinese journals also, of course). I will address the critical steps in the research and publication process. There is no groundbreaking ideas, secret shortcuts, or any particular insight. What itisis comprehensive coverage of academic publication from planning to dealing with rejections or revisions.
